Brisbane artist, film maker and writer Davida Allen has won the 21st annual Tattersall’s Club Landscape Art Prize. The artist wins $20,000 prize money for her entry, a large oil painting titled ‘Cattle in Fog At Sunrise’.
Davida Allen was the winner of the Archibald Prize in 1986. Allen was educated at Stuartholme College and studied art with Betty Churcher. She became a painting lecturer at the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University and is one of Australia’s most reputable female artists.
Seventy two Australian artists entered the 2010 Tattersall’s Club Landscape Art Prize. Nine of the entrants were finalists in the 2010 Archibald and Wynne Prizes.
The judging panel of Dr Amanda Bell, Director, Board of Trustees Queensland Art Gallery; Professor Ross Woodrow, Deputy Director of Queensland College of Art; and Denise Mimmochi, Assistant Curator Art Gallery of New South Wales took less than two hours to decide the winner.
Sydney artist Elisabeth Cummings has won the Etihad Airways Highly Commended Prize with her entry ‘Day to Dusk’.
