Tattersall’s Racing Club will dedicate the Colin McAlpine Am Memorial Classic – Listed (Fillies & Mares) to Racing Club Life Member and pioneer Colin McAlpine, who sadly passed away on Thursday 4 August after a lifetime of service to the thoroughbred breeding and racing industry, during its Tattersall’s Celebration Season Race Day, Saturday 26 November at Eagle Farm Racecourse.

Colin was born into the thoroughbred breeding royalty with his father Andrew establishing Eureka Stud in 1935. Colin’s management of the Darling Downs stud, beginning in the 1960s, produced four Magic Millions winners and cemented Eureka as the state’s leading thoroughbred breeding stud. Colin, alongside his son Scott, bred winners to claim Group victory in every state including Group One winners Spirit of Boom, Temple of Boom, Tinto, Picaday, Just Now, Scenic Park, Show a Heart and Skalato.

He was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 1991 for his ongoing contribution to the Australian thoroughbred industry and for actively promoting its position throughout the world. Colin was welcomed as a Tattersall’s Club Member in April 1974. During his time as a Club Member Colin was very active within Tattersall’s Racing Club (TRC) and as such was honoured with TRC Life Membership for his outstanding contribution to the racing industry in 2015.

Colin also served as President for the Thoroughbred Breeders Queensland Association (TBQA) for 17 years and 14 years as President of the Thoroughbred Breeders Association.
